Brazos River/Bay & Estuary Area

Updated March 2012

Brazos River/Bay Area The Expert Science Team submitted recommendations on the amount of water necessary to ensure a sound ecological environment to the stakeholder committee on March 1, 2012. The stakeholder committee now has until September 1, 2012 to submit its recommendations regarding environmental flow standards and strategies to meet those standards to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Flows Advisory Group. Both groups are currently meeting regularly; please see the TCEQ website for meeting details and to sign up for updates.

After the stakeholder committee submits its recommendations, TCEQ will have one year to adopt environmental flow standards for the Brazos River/Bay & Estuary Area. This will be a formal rule-making process and there will be an opportunity for public comment prior to these standards being put in place.

Please contact Jennifer Ellis at ellis@nwf.org or 512-476-9805 x756 if you would like to be kept informed about the process in this region.
