A Comparison of Municipal Water Use Rates in Region K
Here are water use rates for some of the major cities in Region K. These rates were taken from the Region K, 2001 Regional Water Plan. In identifying strategies to meet anticipated shortages in these cities and others, there is no identification of conservation as a potential strategy. The cities of Dripping Springs, Llano, and Goldthwaite are all anticipating future shortages in their water supplies. Might these shortages be the result of those cities' own high consumption rates? There is no excuse for water use rates of greater than 170 gallons per person per day in 2050. Even with today's technology, significantly lower use rates are achievable.
